A ceramic ball is a precision rolling element made from inorganic, non-metallic materials - typically alumina (Al2O3), zirconia (ZrO2), silicon nitride (Si3N4), or silicon carbide (SiC). Ceramic balls are about 40-60 % lighter than steel, non-magnetic, electrically insulating, chemically inert, and capable of running dry or at high speeds without lubrication. They are used where steel balls fail or are inefficient.
